Officials at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are making plans for additional parking ramps, more efficient security checkpoints and an on-site hotel.
    
Metropolitan Airports Commission chief executive Jeff Hamiel says many of the changes would happen beginning in 2016, pending board approval.

Vacant House Under Renovation in N. Mpls. Goes Up in Flames

A vacant house in North Minneapolis that was being renovated went up in flames overnight.

The fire was reported just after 2 a.m. Wednesday on the 3000 block of Knox Avenue North. Firefighters say the house was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived, and they had to take up a defensive attack because of a sagging front porch roof and holes in the floor.

On Tuesday, the fifth annual PrepareFair was held at the IDS center in Minneapolis to make sure the city is prepared for a major emergency.

MPS Receives $14M Grant to Help Students Prepare for College

Minneapolis Public Schools are getting a big boost to help all students, no matter what their families' income, prepare to go to college and succeed.

The U.S. Department of Education awarded MPS nearly $14 million as part of the GEAR UP grant. GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs.

Minneapolis drivers are another step closer to being able to pay for parking using their cellphones.

On Monday, a Minneapolis City Council committee decided to pursue contract negotiations with Parkmobile USA, Inc. The company would provide a mobile phone payment system for on-street parking in the city.
