Many Minnesotans this weekend took a pledge to stop driving distracted.

The Shreya Dixit Memorial Foundation’s Raksha 5K Walk took place in Eden Prairie on Saturday to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving and to remember those who have lost their lives.

Community members have a chance to meet new people and learn about different cultures during the Eighth Annual Afrifest.

The event takes place Saturday in Brooklyn Park and includes a free BBQ, games, and events for kids. It’s free and open to the public.

Today is National Hot Dog Day, and what better way to celebrate than to enjoy a few?

Chris & Rob’s Chicago’s Taste Authority is hosting their annual “Wiener Takes All” Chicago hot dog eating contest Tuesday in Minneapolis. Minneapolis police, St. Paul police and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office will all face off.

Minneapolis Fire Department Graduates Newest Class of Cadets

The Minneapolis Fire Department will graduate its newest class of cadets Friday.

The graduates have all become certified Emergency Medical Technicians and have earned their Minnesota State Firefighter Licenses. During their training, they learned about fire ground operations, hazardous materials, and technical and water rescue techniques.

Hennepin Co. Sheriff Hosts Meeting on Spotting Signs of Sex Trafficking

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office wants help in combating the sex trafficking of minors.

A public meeting will be hosted Thursday. The sheriff is urging the public – and especially hotel workers – to attend the meeting and learn how to spot signs of sex trafficking. Training is provided by the sheriff’s office and the Minnesota Lodging Association.
