Memorial Day Events Around the Twin Cities | Events
During the Memorial Day weekend, several groups and organizations will come together to celebrate the Americans who have served and given their life for the freedom and protection of the United States.
Here are some events around the Twin Cities area that will honor these service members:
The Lakewood Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Soldiers Memorial. Following the ceremony there will be guided walking tours of the cemetery, horse and carriage tours, children's art activities, historical presentations, and music. This event is free and open to all.
Minnesota State Veterans Memorial
In Little Falls, near Lake Mille Lacs, the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery will host the annual Memorial Day service at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29.
On Monday, Fort Snelling will host a Memorial Day tribute and Military History Timeline from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Costumed staff will help interpret United States military history with characters from 225 years of history. There will be firing demonstrations at the fort and Veterans will be admitted for free.
Veterans For Peace
The Veterans For Peace will hold a Memorial Day service at 9:30 a.m. at the Vietnam War Memorial.
Veterans of America
A Memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Capitol on Monday.
Memorial Day Murph In St. Cloud
On Monday from 2-3:30 p.m. there will be an event with several different exercises. Activities will include push-ups, pull-ups, squats, running, and a BBQ. This event will honor Medal of Honor Recipient, LT. Michael P. Murphy.
Memorial Day/Law Day 5K Run In Willmar
There will be a run and walk event in Willmar on Robbins Island. Attendees can pre-register at the YMCA or online. There will be a youth and adult division plus a kid's fun run and toddler trot. Each participant will receive a race shirt, and prizes will be awarded in each age and gender division.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Will Celebrate Memorial Day
Veterans of the Foreign Wars will host ceremonies at Grandview at 1 p.m.; Marion Cemetery at 1:45 p.m.; Fairview at 2:30 p.m.; and St. Bridget's at 3 p.m.
Memorial Day Sunset Service at Wahkon’s Veteran’s Park (Milacs)
The military unit will be present playing “Taps” along with 21-gun salute to dedicate the POW/MIA Bench, “Walk of Honor.”
Valleyfair honors our Hometown Heroes
Valleyfair will be honoring Hometown Heroes with Military Appreciation Days this Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28. Any member of the armed service, active or Veteran, will receive a free regular admission ticket. Along with free admission, members of the military will be able to purchase discount admission tickets for members of their immediate family (maximum of six) at a special military discount price of $28.50. A valid military ID must be presented at a Valleyfair ticket window May 26-28 to receive this offer.
St. Louis Park Memorial Day Service
The Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion will honor those who have served our country in a Memorial Day Service at the Veterans' Memorial Amphitheater in Wolfe Park, St. Louis Park. The service begins at 11 a.m., and the flag will be raised at noon.
Minnesota Civil War History At The Landing
The Landing, a historic site on the Minnesota River in Shakopee, is having a weekend of Civil War themed events on Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day. A Memorial Day ceremony will be hosted at 2 p.m. on Monday.
Sixteenth Annual Memorial Day Minnesota Civil War Tour
On May 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oakland Cemetery, the 16th Annual Memorial Day Minnesota Civil War Tour will take place. Attendees can hear stories from men who have performed gallant deeds including the state’s first Medal of Honor recipient.
Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial
At 11 a.m. at Purgatory Creek Park, the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial will honor those who have served.
Hopkins Westwind Concert Band Memorial Day Concert
The Westwind band will start the celebration at Downtown Park with a concert at 9:30 a.m. From 10-11 a.m. there will be a ceremony that will honor soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen.
Memorial Day Parade in Bayport
The parade will begin on Highway 95, between Central Avenue and First Avenue North and proceed through the city into the cemetery. Line-up begins at 8 a.m.
