Recycle Old Holiday Lights

With Christmas over, many of us are starting to take down holiday lights and decorations. But what do you do with old, broken strings of lights?

Last year the Recycling Association of Minnesota recycled over 100,000 pounds of holiday light strings and put 200 people to work in Minnesota. Help them reach their goal of collecting 200,000 strands of unwanted lights this year by recycling yours.

The Como Park Zoo and Conservatory is one of the many places offering a spot for you to drop off your old holiday lights for recycling. You can drop off old lights at the visitor center.

Hennepin County is also providing drop off locations for old lights that need to be recycled. Click here for a list of locations in Hennepin County that are accepting lights.

The Recycling Association of Minnesota has created a statewide holiday light-recycling program called Recycle Your Holidays. You can drop off unwanted light strands at one of 400+ participating locations across the state November 15 through the end of January.

The program employs individuals with developmental disabilities at vocational centers throughout the state of Minnesota. Every light strand is dismantled by vocational center clients and then properly recycled.
