Professional History and Awards
Before joining 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, Vineeta was a reporter and weekend weather anchor at KXJB in Fargo, North Dakota, and then a reporter and fill-in news anchor at WOWT in Omaha, Nebraska. Vineeta’s professional goal to work in the Twin Cities was realized when she joined Hubbard Broadcasting in August 1995. Her role expanded when she was named weekend anchor in September 1998 and morning and midday anchor in November 2005. Her work on the morning and midday team has received many awards. In 2008, the morning team won an Emmy for Best Daytime Newscast for their continuing Breaking News Coverage of 35W Bridge Collapse. Vineeta anchored the midday newscast during a Tanker Rollover that won a 2008 Emmy for Breaking News Coverage. In 2007, the morning team won an Emmy for Best Daytime Newscast and in 2006, the midday team earned an Emmy for Best Daytime Newscast / Ford Plant Closes.
Vineeta earned a double major in Journalism and Political Science while at Boston University. Her interest in journalism was sparked by working on the school paper in 5th grade in her hometown of Overland Park, Kansas, and by participating in speech tournaments in high school.
After her son Jack was born in June 2000, Vineeta's perspective on news shifted. "I've been covering education issues for many years but I approach these stories from a parent's perspective now," says Vineeta. When her daughter Leela was born in 2003, she became especially committed to reporting on stories about schools, children and families.

For several years, Vineeta served as the Vice-President for Broadcasting for the Asian American Journalists Association chapter in Minneapolis.
